“The Lift”
Sounds like a strange title. This was at the Certosa di Pontignano monastery in Radda, Chianti where we went to paint one day with my art class. Behind the flowers was what we would call a “dumb waiter” but they called it a “Montacarichi” or a Service Lift. This was the only plein aire painting that I completed while in the class.
The Certosa di Pontignano, also known as the Certosa di San Pietro, is a Carthusian monastery and church in the neighborhood of Pontignano, within the town limits of Castelnuovo Berardenga, a few kilometers north of the city of Siena, in the region of Tuscany, Italy.
